An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate to join research teams based within Bristol Veterinary School and School of Cellular & Molecular Medicine at the University of Bristol.
The post is available on a full-time basis (although part-time will be considered) with funding until April 2021 via MRC OH-DART grant. You will join an international multidisciplinary team working of microbiologists, mathematical modellers, epidemiologists, veterinarians and social scientists from UK and Thailand.
You will undertake mathematical modelling and epidemiological analyses focused on describing complex One Health systems of the drivers of antimicrobial resistance in the environment, in animals and in humans in Thailand. You will develop technical aspects of modelling and epidemiological analyses and will collaborate with other modellers and epidemiologists in this team.
You will also work closely with the experts in policy analysis to develop online tools for decision makers based on the complex models (e.g. in R Shiny) and with your Thai counterpart and the rest of the multidisciplinary team.
You will need a strong mathematical background with preferably a PhD degree in a relevant quantitative subject. We are looking for an applicant with experience in infectious disease mathematical modelling and computational analysis. You must have experience of developing and programming dynamical models (in C or R, or similar), the ability to design and analyse large scale modelling experiments involving data and uncertainty.
You will need excellent communication and project management skills to ensure delivery as well as skills in reviewing the non-modelling literature and undertaking data analyses. You should be able to work effectively within a team environment that includes non-mathematicians. It is desirable that you will have an interest in antimicrobial resistance and public health. Travel to Thailand is required.
