The Department
The successful applicant will work within the dynamic and growing team of the Epidemiological Modelling Unit at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (SPHPM), Monash University. Our multi-disciplinary team of modellers, software developers and epidemiologists undertakes cutting-edge, policy-relevant epidemiological modelling of infectious diseases transmission and control. The Unit works closely with epidemiologists and public health specialists across SPHPM to provide support to government, NGOs and funding agencies to guide policy for infectious disease control in Victoria, Australia and our region. SPHPM is co-located with the Alfred Hospital and the other research institutes across our campus.
The Role
The successful applicant will lead the epidemiological aspects of this major project (“Real-time modelling of the COVID-19 epidemic”), funded by the Australian Medical Research Future Fund and our industry partners (the Victorian Department of Health, the World Health Organization and Amazon Web Services) to a total of AUD >1 million. This project will play a key role in informing the Australian COVID-19 response and developing computational tools for pandemic preparedness generally.
The appointee will lead the epidemiological components of our applications, including collating evidence for our model inputs and interpreting the outputs of our simulations. This will require close interaction with the infectious disease modellers, situational awareness of the context considered, liaison with stakeholders/policy-makers, literature review of relevant inputs and production of manuscripts and reports from the model outputs.
The successful applicant will have outstanding knowledge of public health and epidemiology and excellent organisational and teamwork skills.
